Visionary Road to the Capital, The Little-Known Life of John Harris, Jr.

David Biser who is the official John Harris Jr. for the Historical Society of Dauphin County and the city of Harrisburg PA will speak on speak on our important neighbor. John Harris was born on the banks of the Susquehanna River. He lived from 1727-1791 and was an influential figure during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. He operated a tavern, had a license to trade with the natives, was a captain in the Pennsylvania militia during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution, owned a system of ferry boats for crossing the Susquehanna River, was a trader of goods, a brewer and an entrepreneur, and is best known for the founding of Dauphin County and the city of Harrisburg as the county seat. Harris was a pivotal character in the life of the colony/state of Pennsylvania. In December of 2023, Biser released a book that was five years in the making and covers the life of John Harris Jr.
