Pre-Concert Workshop with David and Ginger Hildebrand
November 2, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Music by David & Ginger Hildebrand
Free Pre-Concert Workshop at Rubendall Hall at Dickinson College.
Presented by Dickinson College and CCHS.
In advance of their concert the following day, Nov. 3 at 1 pm, David & Ginger Hildebrand will offer a pre-concert lecture/workshop on early American music and instruments. This will take place Friday, Nov. 2 at 7pm on the campus of Dickinson College at the Rubendall Recital Hall in the Weiss Center.
Music in the colonial and federal eras varied considerably over time, by region, and according to social class, gender and race. Illustrated with images of period music, performers, instruments, and composers, the Hildebrands will discuss and play examples of music heard in colonial theaters, at rural market fairs, dancing assemblies, taverns and beyond. They will associate their stage-full of instruments — harpsichord, violin, Spanish & English guitars, hammered dulcimers and several African instruments — with historic events, especially those leading up to the Whiskey Rebellion, which brought George Washington briefly to Carlisle in 1794. Questions will be encouraged along with some hands-on time at the harpsichord and hammered dulcimer.
